Zusammenfassung

Die markantesten Anzeichen der Globalisierung stellen zweifelsohne ausländische Kapitalinvestitionen dar, schwergewichtig getätigt von Transnationalen bzw. Multinationalen Konzernen (TNCs bzw. MNCs), also Unternehmen, die in mindestens einem weiterem als dem Land ihrer Herkunft eine Zweigniederlassung haben, an der sie mindestens 10 % der Kapitalanteile halten. Diese Definition der UNCTAD ist vergleichsweise weich, weshalb ausländische Investitionen und die durch TNCs getätigten nahezu identisch sind und die solcherart bestimmte Zahl der TNCs hoch und stark ansteigender Natur ist. Aber auch wenn man sich auf die umsatzstärksten 100 TNCs beschränkt, ist deren Anteil an der weltweiten Produktion, der Beschäftigung, den Investitionen von Privatunternehmen, dem Außenhandel und dem globalen Technologietransfer sehr beachtlich (siehe unten).
