Azimuth, Elevation, and Doppler Shift Estimation for LEO Satellites Based on an Open Source Python Package

Abstract

From a ground station (GS) point of view, accurate estimation of parameters such as azimuth, elevation, and Doppler shift is vital to operate low earth orbiting (LEO) satellites. These parameters are commonly known as being the tracking parameters. In this paper, the estimation of satellite tracking parameters is performed using an open source solution based on the Python package, then, as a verification method, we will compare the results with those of the ALSAT-2 GS, which is an already operational system. Moreover, the obtained results and the experimental tests clearly showed that the GS worked well with the parameters estimated with the developed solution.
