The discussion about the production of lithium-ion battery cells in Germany has been given a new impetus by the announcement of state funding. After a long period of uncertainty, car manufacturers such as Volkswagen are now planning to embark on the large-scale production of lithium-ion batteries for the first time. The main reasons for this are greater independence from domestic and foreign suppliers, the development of in-house expertise in cell chemistry and manufacturing, and the creation of added value for the company. Supplying the German market from local production facilities also seems to be an appealing proposition for major Chinese battery manufacturers. ...
