Akasol has presented the new High Energy Battery Akasystem AKM CYC at The Battery Show Europe 2019. The battery module and system have already entered series development.

Battery manufacturer Akasol unveiled the Akasystem AKM CYC, a high energy battery with liquid cooling system, at The Battery Show Europe. According to Akasol, the built in Akamodule CYC boasts an energy density of 221 Wh/kg (watt-hours per kilogram). Fully electric city buses can be equipped with battery system capacities between 600 and 1,000 kWh, depending on the vehicle size. The scalable system uses specialised cylindrical 21700 cells for commercial vehicle applications.

The Akamodule CYC comes in two standard versions. The smaller Akamodule 64 CYC version is the same size as the PHEV battery module standard and is thermally managed with internal cooling plates. The larger version, the Akamodule 150 CYC, has an integrated liquid cooling structure, ensuring very efficient thermal management of each battery cell. Series production for the fast charging Akasystem AKM CYC is set to begin in 2021.
