Mahle has developed a new battery housing of fibre-reinforced plastic. The integrated thermal management dispenses with the need for complex cooling circuits to ensure fast charging speeds.

The battery housing from Mahle is made of lightweight fibre-reinforced plastic. In this design, the battery cells are surrounded directly by dielectric fluid, enabling a good cooling performance during rapid charging. This way, complex cooling circuits are no longer required, which saves space.

The design will lower production costs, not least because powerful batteries will no longer be required. "With our new battery housing concept, we are making electric vehicles more economical and environmentally friendly – while remaining just as attractive to customers", explains Dr. Otmar Scharrer, Head of Corporate Research and Advanced Engineering at Mahle.
