Cellulose Capitalization to Bio-chemicals in the Presence of Magnetic Nanoparticle Catalysts

Abstract

MNP-RuIII [magnetic nanoparticles (MNP)] catalyst was proven to catalyze the hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose leading selectively to glucose (85 %). In the presence of hydrogen, MNP-RuIII also catalyzed the levulinic acid conversion into γ-valerolactone with total selectivity. These remarkable results are considered as a starting point in the development of a one-pot catalytic conversion of cellulose biomass into added-value chemicals.
