Abstract
In the process of town reconstruction, it is important to respect the opinions of the residents, and in some situations to have residents as key agents. This is because town reconstruction deals with the space closest to the residents on a regional level and above all, its ultimate goal is to reconstruct the lives of the residents, including housing and jobs. In drawing up the town plans for reconstruction following the Great East Japan Earthquake, however, various difficulties arose in carrying out such a residents-centered town development program. In this paper we shall give an account of the lessons learned concerning residents-centered reconstruction town planning after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
