Abstract

The aim of this session is to bring together researchers and developers who are engaged in the development and evaluation of digital technologies and e-learning environments to improve the conditions for social participation of people with cognitive disabilities and learning difficulties of all ages in all areas of life. In this session ideas, visions and projects for research, development and evaluation on the following topics will be presented and discussed: Digital technologies for people with cognitive disabilities, cognitive accessibility of everyday technologies and eLearning environments, eLearning environments for learners with learning difficulties (accessible MOOCs, LMS, VLEs), digital support systems for people with dementia and use of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality or gaming elements in digital technologies for people with learning disabilities. The introduction integrates the different topics into the broader context of digital inclusion of people with cognitive disabilities. Even though much has improved in recent decades, there are still technological, structural and attitudinal characteristics that make it difficult for this target group to fully participate in society. Digital technologies and modern learning environments, if cognitively accessible, offer the possibility of overcoming barriers and enable people with cognitive disabilities to participate more actively in all areas of life.
