Comparison of Experimental Methods to Measure the Isothermal Precipitation Kinetics of Nb(C,N) in Austenite of a Nb-Microalloyed Steel

Abstract

The isothermal precipitation kinetics of Nb(C,N) in strained austenite of a Nb-microalloyed steel was quantitatively investigated using electrical resistivity (ER) and interrupted compression methods and validated with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The difference in precipitation start time (P s ) between the two methods is too small to compare the accuracy of the methods. The precipitation finish time (P f ) exhibits the larger difference between the two methods. The interrupted compression method gives too early P f because of particle growth with holding time.
