Abstract

This present aims at describing the current way of coordinating power flow controlling devices in Europe and gives an overview about promising methods to be applied in the future. However, the idea of coordinating such devices is rather new. The first phase-shifting transformers in Europe with an overlapping sphere of influence were installed very recently. Today, the coordination of these devices is carried out by various security centers, which have been set up during the recent years and are still under expansion. For further improvement of the coordination procedures, newly developed methods for the coordination of power flow controlling devices are presented and compared by evaluating the advantages and disadvantages for different fields of application. Finally, this chapter gives advices of how to improve the coordination in the future with the goal of a global increase of transmission capacity.
