Abstract

In the last 20 years, it has been recognized that multiphysics couplings play a major role in earthquake nucleation and seismic slip. On the basis of field observations, laboratory experiments and advanced modeling, the detailed study of coupled processes has brought some new insights in the understanding of earthquake mechanics that are reviewed in this paper.
