Critical Degree of Billet Deformation in Closed Gauges of a Tube-Forming Mill

Abstract

A comprehensive stress-strain analysis of a tube billet during the forming on modern tube-forming mills of different types is performed using the finite element simulation. The main forming issues are highlighted and a complex approach to their solution is proposed. The rationality criteria of a deformation mode are established. The mode which allows reducing the metal consumption and increasing the product yield of electrowelded tubes of general and oil-gas purposes is developed. This mode also enables expanding the dimensional range towards thin-walled tubes and the steel-type range towards high-strength steels.
