Apart from gaps in the infrastructure, one of the loudest criticisms levelled at many electric vehicles is still the long time spent at the charging station. A prerequisite for solving this aspect is charging using direct current with high power. This approach would greatly reduce the charging time and hence increase the acceptance of using electric vehicles (especially for long hauls). To achieve this, the in-vehicle current path must be designed to carry the high permanent load during rapid charging. TE Connectivity employs a dynamic thermal simulation procedure for such design work. This avoids the over-dimensioning of components and delivers the early validation of a safe design. …
