This chapter describes the process of data collection that led to the construction of the sample (section 3.1) followed by a detailed description of the full sample (section 3.2) that is used for all three empirical investigations presented in chapters 4 to 6. Section 3.3 contains a short description of the family firm subsample that is used in chapter 5. This chapter closes with a description of the statistical methods applied in this dissertation (section 3.4).
