A network device may be as simple as a desktop PC, modem, printer or laptop. These devices can send or receive information. Sometimes they are managed by a lonely network administrator whose only tool is an outdated protocol analyzer. More sophisticated network management technology includes distributed databases, auto-polling of the network devices, proxies to capture information for legacy devices and high-end workstations generating real-time graphical views of network topology changes and traffic. In general, network management is a service that employs a variety of tools, applications, and devices to assist human network managers to operate networks. …
