Abstract
The aim of the article is to describe the basic guidelines for designing public and individual means of transport together with their environment and pointing to the necessity of a holistic approach to the system. In the light of the society ageing, it is crucial to work on implementing procedures which support the elderly, but first of all on appropriate construction of assumptions and design forms for the emerging means of transport and their environment. In the article, we present the basic guidelines for design determined by the needs of users, i.e. the elderly, as well as broader directives including the needs of extreme users. The analysed guidelines are constructed on the basis of adequate data from the literature and on the basis of research done by the author exploring the needs of the elderly within the scope of ergonomic design of products introduced between the years of 2010–2017.
