Evaluation of compressive strength for the wood Eucalyptus grandis using ultrasonic wave propagation

Abstract

This study presents a methodology to evaluate the compressive strength of unloaded dry wood of Eucalyptus grandis (moisture up to 12 %) through a statistical model that correlates this mechanical property with the velocity of ultrasonic waves. Properties were measured in the directions parallel and perpendicular to the fibers. Results presented good correlation with linear regression models.
