Globally there is increased focus on electric-drive vehicles, and at least a dozen countries have announced specific plans for introducing electric-drive vehicle fleets in large numbers during the next decade. However, electric vehicles are yet to overcome several technical issues. Currently, the limitation of the on-board energy storage system pose the biggest barrier to wider acceptance of EVs and huge resources are being deployed for developing better battery for EVs. The batteries used in electric and hybrid electric vehicles in the past include lead acid, nickel cadmium, and nickel metal hydride. Lithium-ion appears to be the present choice, even though it does not meet the ideal demands of the vehicle user. So, the quest for better battery is being pursued earnestly. …
