Abstract

The dependence of lubricant diffusivity on lubricant film thickness is investigated by determining the best functional relationship that minimizes the error between experimental data and a numerical solution of the partial differential equation describing lubricant thickness as a function of space and time. Two optimization codes were developed. The first one is for the case of constant D o and the second one for variable D(h). The results show that, for the case of Zdol 4000, D is a strong function of film thickness h.
