This chapter deals with the consequences and risks associated with fires and explosions. The objective is to give a brief insight into the development of a fire scenario, the methodology of risk analysis for fire safety engineering and the calculation of the consequences of a fire or explosion. At the end of this chapter some precautionary activities relating to fires and explosions are presented. The content is mainly focused on the protection of people in a building. There are, however, some other aspects that must be taken into consideration. For example, the property damage that affects a company or the loss of production capacity that emerges as a result of a fire. Such analyses are rather extensive and the risk analysis is often greatly dependent on the company and its particular circumstances.
