A starting point of modelling is the presence or expected occurrence of a system’s condition which a planning institution wants to influence (ARNOLD, 2008, p. 36). In this sense, the aim of a transport model is to make transparent the interacting or interdependent components of a real transport system. More specified, the purpose of a transport model is to describe and explain the behaviour of a transport system (BEN-AKIVA, MEERSMAN AND VAN DE VOORDE, 2013, p. 4).
