Renault will be adding a range extender to two of its electric commercial vehicles. The fuel cell technology will extend the range of the Kangoo Z.E. and Master Z.E. models.

There will be new versions of the Renault Master Z.E. and Kangoo Z.E. electric commercial vehicles with range extenders. The range extender will consist of a 10 kW (14 HP) fuel cell. The Kangoo Z.E. Hydrogen will receive one hydrogen tank and the Master Z.E. Hydrogen will receive two hydrogen tanks. The fuel cell in the Kangoo Z.E. Hydrogen provides up to 29.7 kWh of energy to support the 33 kWh battery. The fuel cell in the Renault Master Z.E. Hydrogen, which also has a 33 kWh. battery, provides 56 kWh of energy.

Fuel cell technology extends the range by working in conjunction with the lithium-ion battery. Once the charge of the battery reaches 80% of its maximum capacity, the batteries begin to recharge, or keep the current level of charge. The fuel cell's waste heat is used for the thermal management of the battery and the interior. The Master Z.E. Hydrogen's range in the WLTP cycle will be extended from 120 km to 350 km and the Kangoo Z.E. Hydrogen's range from 230 km to 370 km.
