Starting form precedent experiences and from examples available in literature, this paper describes the usefulness of building a framework based on ontologies for the integration of geographic information in a Spatial Analysis System. The framework have to allow integration of information at different levels of detail. Since there is not a unifying concept of space it is necessary to be able to deal with multiple views of the geographic world. Therefore, it is necessary for GIS developers to be able to integrate different ontologies. After discussing the relevance of using ontologies on GIS to build a Spatial Analysis System, the paper highlight future perspective for research in this important field for geosciences.
