In recent, Wireless Sensor Network related technologies are widely applied for various applications but efficient use of limited resources is still unsolved. Its typical study is a cluster-based routing protocol which forms clusters targeting sensor nodes, selects cluster heads and reduces the energy needed to communicate in order to maximize the network lifetime. But the existing cluster-based routing protocols such as LEACH, LEACH-C, HEED have a few problems like inequality of energy consumption due to a biased distribution of cluster heads, unnecessary energy consumption due to additional data transfer, and overhead problem due to remaining energy calculation and transfer. Therefore, this study proposes techniques for selecting the cluster head with use of the distance between the cluster components.
