Holz ist seit jeher einer der wichtigsten und neben Lehm und Naturstein einer der ältesten vom Menschen genutzten Werkstoffe überhaupt (Abb. 6.1). Zum einen deswegen, weil er der einzige nachwachsende Baustoff ist, der bei nachhaltiger Pflege ständig zur Verfügung stehen wird, zum anderen aber, weil er ein natürlicher und ökologisch wertvoller Baustoff ist. Holzprodukte können mit dem geringsten Energieaufwand unter allen Baustoffen hergestellt werden. Des Weiteren ist Holz – sofern nicht mit chemischen Holzschutzmitteln kontaminiert – wohnhygienisch unbedenklich, wieder verwertbar und unproblematisch zu entsorgen. …
