Abstract

This chapter reviews the history, economics, terminology, accounting, and operating aspects of lodging and hospitality providers. Key performance metrics that are essential to evaluating competitive micro- and macro- economic and financial conditions are explained and applied. Valuation methods and the relationships to real estate, labor costs, and construction plans, and interest rates are also covered.
