Integrated Production and Maintenance Planning: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract

Production and maintenance planning are interconnected problems, so that their joint solution can enhance system performance. This paper develops a systematic review on the integrated production and maintenance planning on manufacturing systems. The content analysis included sixty-nine papers, embracing aspects of production system modelling, optimization mechanism, practical applications and research directions. The findings indicate the predominance of theoretical studies, the use of genetic algorithm for the optimization engine, in which costs and makespan are the variables of the objective function. Future research directions point to applications for real scenarios, predictive maintenance and models with increasing complexity.
