Soon after assuming office for the second time in 2012, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe launched an economic programme to remedy two decades of stagnation. Nicknamed after him, Abenomics consists of three “arrows”—increasing the nation’s money supply, boosting government spending and enacting reforms to make the economy more competitive. The programme has so far failed to fire up the Japanese economy.
