Abstract

This introduction prepares the reader for an analysis of the employment of people with disability in the media by introducing the broader topic of disability and un/employment and then narrowing the focus to the media industry. It is noted that, in general, people with disability experience lower rates of employment than people without, both in the larger workforce and within the media specifically. The chapter also situates the focus on media employment within and against other disability media concerns related to representation and access. The introduction finishes by outlining the aims and explaining the structure of the book.
