Abstract

Based on the step cooling curve method, continuously varying cell constant (CVCC) method, observation method, and carbon block sodium expansion rate determination method, the effects of KF content on liquidus temperature, conductivity, alumina solubility, and electrolysis expansion rate of cathode were studied. The results showed that the liquidus temperature decreased with the increase in KF content. For every 1% increase of KF, the liquidus temperature decreased by about 1.83 ℃. The conductivity increased with the increase of superheat, and the average conductivity increased by 0.009 S/cm for every 1 ℃ increase in superheat. Under the same superheat, the conductivity increased by 0.033 S/cm for every 1% decrease in KF. Under the same superheat, KF content had little effect on the dissolution rate of alumina. The electrolysis expansion rate of the cathode carbon block increased with the increase in the KF content. The purpose of this work was to study the effect of KF content on the physical and chemical properties of aluminum electrolyte, and to provide a theoretical basis for the selection of appropriate electrolyte composition in aluminum electrolysis industry.
