Ford is currently working on a new ‘ride the green wave’ technology that could mean the end of stopping at red lights dozens of times a day. Currently on trial in the UK, a green light optimal speed advisory uses information on traffic light timings from a roadside unit to display to the driver, the best speed to travel at to get a green light at the next traffic intersection. The initiative is a part of Autodrive, the UK’s largest self-driving and connected car trial, under which manufacturers are developing vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure technologies that could make driving less stressful and time-consuming in the near future, while also improving fuel efficiency at the same time. …
