From October 22 to 24, 2018, around 255 participants from 14 countries gathered for the 43rd Munich Adhesives and Finishing Symposium. This year, there was a focus on the field of "pressure sensitive adhesives".

Since 1976, the annual Munich Adhesives and Finishing Symposium has addressed product and machine manufacturers, as well as formulators and users from the adhesives, printing and converting industries. Once again, the industry met up from October 22 to 24, 2018, with around 255 participants from 14 countries in the conference centre of the Sheraton Munich Arabellapark Hotel. As usual, Stephan Hinterwaldner and his team offered an interesting and highly topical programme with plenty of room for networking.

In accordance with this year's topic, "pressure sensitive adhesives", 31 lectures were held on the latest developments and trends in raw materials, pressure sensitive adhesive and hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive systems as well as processing technologies and processing plants. A small, well-frequented tabletop exhibition complemented the supporting programme. When opening the ceremony, Hinterwaldner emphasised the fact that: "The high number of participants and the technical quality of the presentations underline the enormous importance of pressure sensitive adhesives in general, as well as adhesive tapes and labels as the leading application in the field of pressure sensitive adhesives".

A diverse selection of topics

The program included the debut presentation of the new DVS 3320-2 guideline on "Quality requirements in the application of pressure sensitive adhesive tapes as permanent adhesive connections" by Ms. Stammen from the Technical University of Braunschweig, who was representing the responsible DVS Expert Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Seitz, from the tesa company. Prof. Martin-Martinez from the University of Alicante gave an insight into his exciting work on "Controlled stickiness and adhesion by changing the degree of phase separation in thermoplastic polyurethane pressure sensitive adhesives using polyether-polyol mixtures", and Prof. Koch from the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences (Westfälische Hochschule) focused his lecture on the extensive research work carried out on "Hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives based on polylactic acid".

In 2019, the 44th Munich Adhesives and Finishing Symposium will take place from October 28 to 30 and will be dedicated to the topic of "Hot melt adhesives, hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives and extrudable films". There has already been a call for papers. Additional information can be found at www.mkvs.de
