This was just the beginning of the journey for the Satellite Centre, setting up all the elements, facilities and putting them together like connecting all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle. But the real journey of creating a satellite centre that meets all national aspirations was yet to happen. Shri N Pant as director gave a new direction of a disciplined soldier that he was. Though a true follower of Prof U R Rao, he implemented the IRS-1A and INSAT-2A and 2B projects, nurturing the matrix management structure, interfacing with other centres and enabling project directors taking total responsibility in the execution of projects. He set examples of utmost honesty and straightforward management. Once, to pay a visit to a sick friend, he walked to the main road (old airport road) and took a taxi, rather than taking his office car. This was not just for a show, but his real characteristic that he followed strict rules in his own day-to-day behaviour. …
