Mean of Subarrays in the Angular Estimation for the Millimeter Wave Communication

Abstract

In the hierarchical codebook, changing the codeword's beamwidth depends on the codeword position in this codebook. Some articles take two steps to find the desired Angles of Departures and Angles of Arrivals, the coarse search, then the refined search. In any case of searching, the chosen codeword should create the beam space having the same gain in all directions. The subarrays method has been considered to increase beamwidth, ensuring all—constant directional beam gain for the codeword. This paper explores that using the mean of subarray beams rather than complex integration for subarray beams. The simulation also proves that the beams' average success detection rate versus the SNR is equivalent to the subarray beams integration while keeping the higher channel capacity and reduced computations.
