Abstract

The study focuses on the detection and characterization of 'Candidatus Phytoplasma mali' associated with phyllody symptoms in Narcissus tazetta plants in Türkiye. Researchers employed molecular techniques such as PCR, RFLP, and DNA sequencing to identify and analyze the phytoplasma. The results revealed that the detected phytoplasma belongs to the 16SrX-A subgroup, which is the first report of this subgroup in daffodils worldwide. Electron microscopy was used to visualize phytoplasma bodies in the sieve elements of symptomatic plants, further confirming the presence of the pathogen. The study highlights the need for further investigation into the epidemiology and control of this phytoplasma strain in daffodil plantations.
