Based on a thermal image analysis technology, a molten steel level measurement system in continuous casting tundish is reported. Measuring the thickness of tundish covering flux is the characteristic of this method. In the measuring process, a CCD camera is used to get the thermal image of measuring sensor which is inserted into the tundish to get the temperature distribution. By calculating temperature grads of the measuring sensor in the thermal images the interface of “molten steel - tundish covering flux - air” can be obtained. The steel metallurgical field application of this method shows that measuring error is less than 5mm and it has a favorable application prospect.
