The Swedish eye-tracking software developer Smart Eye was on its way to profitability in 2021 as the driver monitoring market was about to take off. “We had won a lot of programs in 2019 and 2020 that would start delivering in 2022. And then Covid hit,” explained CEO Martin Krantz. “Then came the chip shortages and the war in Ukraine. Every one of those programs got delayed. We didn't get the revenues we were projecting. We were underfunded and had to issue more stock to raise capital.” The company's stock took a steep dive.
