The transboundary (Hungary-Romania) region of the Crisul/Körös river basin suffers from frequent floods, which start in the mountainous headwaters of the basin in Romania and propagate quickly to the plains in Hungary. The NATO Science for Peace Programme has sponsored a project in this region entitled Monitoring of Extreme Flood
