Electric mobility can only become widespread if the vehicles can be easily charged at a large number of locations. Audi has introduced its e-tron charging service which gives all e-tron customers and owners of plug-in models access to around 80 % of all public charging stations in Europe. At the time of the market launch there were already over 72,000 charging points operated by 220 suppliers available in 16 EU countries, with a further eight markets in Eastern Europe due to follow a few months later. Billing is handled centrally under a single contract. Customers need only one card to start the charging process and all the charging processes are billed together at the end of the month. In mid 2019 the plug & charge function will be introduced. It enables the e-tron to authenticate itself at charging stations using cryptographic procedures, after which it is authorized. A card will no longer be necessary.
