The Oxford Handbook of Austrian Economics is the latest of a series of edited volumes that provides readers with a coherent overview of the methodological, analytical, and policy-relevant aspects of the Austrian school. Previous volumes include the Elgar Companion to Austrian Economics (Boettke 1994), which contained many shorter pieces intended primarily to familiarize readers with Austrian and Austrian-friendly ideas applied to current research topics, and the Handbook on Contemporary Austrian Economics (Boettke 2010), which included contributions by younger scholars who explained how Austrian insights contributed to their research programs. The Oxford Handbook continues the efforts of both of these edited volumes, and extends them. In addition to providing readers with an up-to-date accounting of the Austrian school and its scholarly activities, Peter Boettke and Christopher Coyne have assembled a series of essays that are also significant contributions to the literature in their own right.
