Abstract

Development of intelligent transport systems (ITS) is one of the tools used to achieve long-term objectives of the EU transport policy. The new EU strategy sets the course of action towards a cleaner, environment friendly and efficient transport, promotes intelligent mobility in order to change standards of mobility patterns. Development of technologies concerning mobile devices and common access to the Internet (at any time and place) forms a basis for the creation of new services also in the transport sector. Although, their further development requires integration in the institutional, technological and operational areas. Examples of actions taken in such direction are C-ITS Platform, an EU initiative, and a new service called Mobility as a Service (MaaS). Rationale and effects of these innovative solutions are this article’s main subject for considerations.
