Excerpt

Fraunhofer IWU and Thyssenkrupp System Engineering have developed a laser welding gun for car body construction that does not require compressed air and can be used outside laser welding cells. The system is designed to extract welding fumes and spatters directly in the molten pool. Only part of the air is used to extract welding spatter and smoke, while the remainder flows under the protective glass of the optics in the direction of the joint, eliminating the need for a pneumatically operated crossjet and reducing contamination of the system and workpiece surface. In multi-material body construction, the laser welding gun can be used, for example, to fix the joining partners of hybrid components before they are bonded together. Thanks to the clamping mechanism, uniform adhesive thicknesses can be ensured compared to conventional laser welding. |
