Jaguar’s I-Pace concept car is its first electric model. It is intended as a preview of the production version of the five-seater Jaguar I-Pace which will be presented to the public this year and launched on the market in 2018. Together the electric motors on the front and rear axles produce 294 kW and torque of 700 Nm. The electric all-wheel-drive distributes the torque as required between the two axles. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 4 s, but Jaguar has not yet announced its top speed. The I-Pace is powered by energy from a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 90 kWh, which is located under the floor and between the axles. Its low position is intended to lower the car’s centre of gravity and reduce any tendency to yaw. The battery housing is made from aluminium and functions as an integral part of the bodywork. Jaguar has opted for pouch cells because of their high energy density, excellent heat dissipation properties and space-saving design.
