The first fully electric Citaro city bus from Mercedes-Benz will roll off the production line at the end of 2018. The bus is powered by lithium-ion batteries and the modular design of the battery pack allows customized solutions to be developed for a wide range of applications in urban traffic. The Citaro can be charged from a power socket at the depot, but Mercedes-Benz also offers a range of optional intermediate recharging solutions. The vehicle is driven by electric wheel hub motors on the rear axle. The Citaro’s highly efficient thermal management function for the drive and air conditioning systems reduces energy consumption significantly, which extends the vehicle’s range. The bus is currently being put through the normal cycle of trials, including summer and winter tests and endurance testing. …
