Automotive supplier BorgWarner has presented its so-called P2 modules. Positioned between engine and transmission, the modules allow the engine and drivetrain to be separated, enabling pure electric driving for applications with 48-V and high-voltage on-board power supply systems. The company's hybrid technology combines an electric motor, power electronics, disconnect clutch, control module and dual-mass flywheel in a compact package. The solution can also be integrated into pre-existing drivetrains. To cater to different hybrid applications, BorgWarner developed coaxial and parallel axial versions respectively. The coaxial design features the electric motor positioned directly on the main axle, which allows the system to be easily integrated, and ensures a compact overall package. In the parallel axle configuration, the electric motor is mounted parallel to the main axle, which reduces the axial space requirements and further minimizes the changes required for implementation in existing systems.
