Melexis has launched new magnetic position sensor ICs, the MLX90371 and MLX90372, that enable the reliable acquisition of absolute position in automotive applications such as powertrains, pedals and gear shifts. Both sensors consist of a magnetic triaxis Hall frontend, an analog-digital signal amplifier, a DSP for advanced signal processing, and an end-stage driver. The MLX90371 offers an analog or PWM output; the MLX90372 offers a Sent or PWM output. One important attribute of both sensors is their robustness against stray fields, which are increasingly common due to the electrification of modern vehicles. By measuring a magnetic field gradient, the sensors are insensitive to stray fields up to 4 kA/m (or 5 mT), as required by vehicle manufacturers. Both sensors are available in different versions for rotary or linear movement recognition and replace the MLX90364, MLX90365, MLX90366 and MLX90367. A PCB-free Dual-mold Package (DMP) is available for integration directly into an assembly without requiring a circuit board.
