Walther Trowal has developed the Rotamaten R 60 for coating small batches of small bulk parts. The machine can process volumes between 2 and 15 litres, including metal parts with a high specific weight. Although it is designed for small batches, it has all the same functions as its larger equivalents. The drum has a diameter of 600 mm and is ideally suited for parts which would generate too much friction in larger drums, such as spikes for winter tyres, bullets and balancing weights. Tried-and-tested components from the large coating systems have been used in the new machine, such as the air supply and exhaust system, the explosion-proof LED lights inside the drum and the drum holder. The small machine also has a four-stage exhaust system with a cardboard labyrinth filter, filter mat and two bag filters. The temperature of the incoming air is measured shortly before it enters the drum, which allows it to be regulated more precisely. In order to reduce the energy consumption, the size of the heater has been adjusted to suit the smaller diameter drum. Depending on the properties of the parts and the paint, the machine is equipped with a PID controller or a synchronised controller for the heater. This makes it possible to use paints that must not exceed or fall below certain temperatures during the application process. The volume of incoming air is determined using a pilot tube, which enables the concentration of solvents to be calculated reliably. This means that the machine can be certified for a high solvent throughput.
