3. Pulsed DC Glow Discharge Plasma Nitriding

Abstract

Pulsed power supply is used for plasma nitriding to overcome the problems of conventional DC plasma nitriding. Therefore, using this power source has provided some noticeable advantages such as the following:
1.
A more accurate control on nitriding process
 
2.
Controlling and lowering the process temperature simply by adjusting the pulse width without any change in bias voltage
 
3.
Avoiding the arcing phenomenon on the surface of the workpiece
 
4.
A more uniform temperature distribution and lowering the overheating risk of the surface of the workpiece
