Abstract

This article is a continuation of the Authors’ study on the ways to ensure safety of aeronautical operations in the aspect of aeronautical data and information quality assurance in the entire process (considered as the supply chain) of those data and information creation, collection, processing, publication as well as final operational utilization, extending the discussed context to the risk of proper information utilization. In its content the accident of Airbus A320 aircraft (LH2904) that occurred on September 14th, 1993 at Warsaw airport [EPWA] during landing was described. Particular attention was paid to the telematic systems (especially those responsible for information and automatic control), that took part in the unsuccessful deceleration process of the aircraft. Then the brief characteristics of operational risk management in aviation was presented and hazard and operability study of the aircraft’s telematic systems, based on the described case, and using structured examination method (HAZOP), was conducted.

1
FMS – Flight Management System – a specialized computer system that automates a wide variety of in-flight tasks, reducing the workload on the flight crew. Its primary function is in-flight management of the flight plan. Using various sensors to determine the aircraft's position, the FMS can guide the aircraft along the flight plan. The FMS sends the flight plan for display to the Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS), Navigation Display (ND), or Multifunction Display (MFD).
