Zusammenfassung

Der Tod ist das unausweichliche Ende des menschlichen Lebens und hat in den verschiedensten Kulturen der Welt seit jeher eine besondere Rolle eingenommen. Die Auseinandersetzung der Menschen mit dem Tod brachte seit den frühesten bekannten Zivilisationsformen eine unzählige Vielfalt an Ritualen und Bräuchen hervor, von denen einige in diesem Kapitel vorgestellt und durch psychologische Konzepte und Theorien erklärt werden sollen. Wir wagen den Versuch, den Mechanismen, die hinter verschiedenen Todesritualen stecken, auf den Grund zu gehen. Besonderer Wert wird in diesem Kapitel auf eine interkulturelle Perspektive gelegt.
